 NEW
YORK, taken in Weegee's room on return from third
alarm at Cliff and Ferry sts. We
believe this to be a portrait of Weegee's close friend, Gordon
"Moon" Mullins to whom these negatives were given.
It was his estate that preserved them after his death in 1971
(see #85). He is believed to be the source of many of the negatives
whose attribution is suspect. He was a member of the Bell Club
and belonged to the N.Y.C Fire Patrol. He later became a dispatcher
for the City of New York and was made an Hon. Deputy Chief. (4x5 film negative) #0028

 "PERSONAL"
The man pictured
is Gordon "Moon" Mullins seen wearing his uniform as
an
Honorary Deputy Chief of the FDNY. He was one of the members
of the Fire Bell Club of New York which is presently located
at 204 East 23rd Street. He was employed, for several years prior
to his death, as a Fire Alarm Dispatcher in the Manhattan Central
Office of the FDNY and had badge number 11. The old Nash sedan
pictured in some of the photos carried has maltese plate (#13)
given to him when he was made an honorary chief officer (first
an honorary battalion chief and later promoted to honorary deputy
chief). (ref.: Mand Library at the FDNY Fire Academy) I believe this to be a portrait
of Weegee's close friend to whom these negatives were given and
who assembled this collection. It was his estate that preserved
them after his death in 1971 (see #28). (3
