 "PERSONAL"
The man pictured
is Gordon "Moon" Mullins seen wearing his uniform as
an
Honorary Deputy Chief of the FDNY. He was one of the members
of the Fire Bell Club of New York which is presently located
at 204 East 23rd Street. He was employed for several years prior
to his death as a Fire Alarm Dispatcher in the Manhattan Central
Office of the FDNY and had badge number 11. The old Nash sedan
pictured in some of the photos carried has maltese plate (#13)
given to him when he was made an honorary chief officer (first
an honorary battalion chief and later promoted to honorary deputy
chief). (ref.: Mand Library at the FDNY Fire Academy) I believe this to be a portrait
of Weegee's close friend to whom these negatives were given and
who assembled this collection. It was his estate that preserved
them after his death in 1971 (see #28). (3

5-5- Apparatus is the 1936 Mack
pumper of Engine 8. #89
& #90 are actually different shots. Note the upper water
stream and the positions of the pump operator and hoseman. The
photographer probably flipped the holder and shot a "safety". (4x5 film negative) #0090
